If you’ve been feeling anxious about your smile, you’re in luck. There are many steps you can take to improve your smile. At Trinity Dental Care, we understand that your smile is the first thing people see when they meet you. It’s natural to want your smile to stand out as much as possible. If you’ve been thinking about enhancing your smile and you’re looking for options, it’s time to consider Invisalign. Here’s what you need to know.

Confidence is Key

Your dental provider will talk with you about your personal confidence. Did you know that having a great smile can make you feel better about yourself? If you’re nervous when it comes to taking pictures or you feel uncomfortable smiling, Invisalign could be a great way to improve your overall confidence and help you feel better about your teeth and your smile.

The Process

When you’re ready to consider Invisalign, your family dentist will talk with you about the process of Invisalign. Typically, you’ll place a clear set of trays on your teeth. These are called aligners. Once a week or once every two weeks, you’ll switch out your aligners for a new set. Each time you change aligners, your teeth will gradually move to a new position. You’ll be able to remove your aligners while you eat or during important meetings, which makes them a great choice for today’s busy professional. Just make sure you brush your teeth and put your aligners back in place after you’re finished. Ideally, you’ll wear your aligners for 22 hours each day.

Getting Started

Your cosmetic dentist will have you come in to take your initial scans. These scans and x-rays will ensure that your dentist knows exactly where each of your teeth currently is. Your dental care provider will be able to digitally enhance and move each tooth in order to plan how your Invisalign treatment will proceed. You’ll schedule a follow-up appointment and your dentist will order your new aligners. When your aligners are ready for you to start wearing, you’ll come back to your dental office to begin your treatment.

Typically, your dentist will place small tooth-colored brackets on your teeth. These help hold your Invisalign trays in place and assist with moving your teeth. When you aren’t wearing your trays, you’ll be able to feel the brackets, but they will not impact your ability to eat. Most people will not even notice you have them on.

Taking Care

You’ll need to clean your aligners after each wear. Simply use your toothbrush and a small amount of toothpaste to clean the trays. It’s also important that you thoroughly brush your teeth and dental floss before placing your aligners back in your mouth. This will help prevent plaque and tartar from building up on your teeth. Because you’ll be wearing trays, it’s important to ensure you don’t have food particles stuck on your teeth before you place your aligners back in place.

Make sure you store your aligners properly in your case when you aren’t wearing them. Don’t leave your aligners in a napkin or on the floor. You should also avoid leaving them in a hot car, as heat can warp the aligners and affect your Invisalign treatment. Caring for your aligners is actually a fairly simple process. Just place them in your case when you aren’t wearing them, clean them, and then place them back inside of your mouth.

Retention

When your Invisalign treatment is finished, you’ll continue to receive dental health care. Your dental provider may have you wear the last set of aligners or he may make you a set of retainers to wear. You may also have a permanent retainer placed on your teeth to ensure they stay firmly in place. It’s very important that you follow your physicians guidelines for care after Invisalign treatment. Proper care will ensure your teeth don’t move back to their former positions. After months of hard work and dedication, you want to ensure that your teeth stay firmly in place.

No two smiles are alike, which is why it’s important to seek individual care at the right dental office in your area. With Invisalign, you can experience a lovely, beautiful smile you can be proud of. Your dental provider wants you to feel great about your teeth, which is why Invisalign is a service you can opt to experience for yourself. If you’re interested in improving your smile or changing the way you look, go ahead and call. Schedule an initial consultation to discover if Invisalign is a good fit for you and your lifestyle.
